I don't have a clear way to elminate the 'shape' from the view of the camera, other than, if the airplane only makes a shadow after it has passed the virtual observation point, then the shape would be out of the camera view as well. Then angle a light such that this shape layer casts a shadow on the text, and the text of course is set up to receive shadows. Yep, after some meddling, I arrived to your first solution : ) I tried deleting the drop shadow layer style and use a drop shadow effect too, but unfortunately that doesn’t allow to set the shadow to overlay. Each Layer Style is uniquely organized to stack among the other styles. Overall, Layer Styles allow After Effects users to create detailed titles and objects that stand apart from regular design. Set that shape layer to 3d and 'cast shadows', and move the shape, adjusting for change and perspective, that tracks the real aircraft's path. Set the light and the Wings layer to cast shadows, and set the Surface layer to receive shadows. Lastly, the Satin effect darkens the interior portion of titles and objects and helps create undefined contrast. but an idea I would try is to create a layer with a shape, that has a reasonable approximation of the shape of the air craft. 3D layer TURNED on and then positioned.I've not done this. The shadow is a duplicate layer of the text with a drop shadow effect. I tried using a light but it didn't fit well so I used a grey to white ramp to mimic the lighting. Not sure how This will work but it's my next attempt. Then after effects will link the parameters of that Master Effect to the other layers. Then select the effect > Go to Edit > Copy with property link > Ctrl+V and paste the copied effect to any layer you want to apply the effect. I'm going to try and pre-comp the text layer with a light and turn cast shadows on and actually cast a shadow. So, how do I apply drop shadows to multiple layers at once You could apply the drop shadow effect to only one layer.
